Manuscript Submission Guidelines (as of March 1, 2007)
Dear Authors:
Thank you for your interest in “5th Street Books”. We publish a small select list of Urban and mainstream fiction titles per year. We take great pride in our continued commitment in fostering new talent. The material we are most likely to publish must contain a puissant plot with a solid structure of characters and must be marketable by 5th Street Books.
What we publish: We currently only publish fiction novels of drama, mystery, romance, thriller and street hip hop contents.
What we do not publish: We do not publish science fiction, fantasy, horrors, myths, Bio’s or poetry. Publication of poetry is limited to our currently signed authors. We do not accept submission of material written by children. You must be at least 18 years of age to submit work to us.
Style: Keep it simple. Fonts must be readable or we want read it. Keep typesetting to standard book face such as Times Roman or Courier and font size 12 points or greater. Standard manuscript format only: Double space, 1 ˝’ margins on all four sides of the page. Indent paragraphs, center chapter headers and scene break indicators,
( ###, ***,etc.) and page numbers at the bottom of each page are mandatory.
Payment rates: Very competitive.
Preferred manuscript length: Manuscripts must be a minimum of 70,000 words.
Submission procedures: We require the first four chapters accompanied by a synopsis, list of characters, and a query letter. Please include with your submission a cover letter that contains your name, current address, phone number, e-mail address and alternate e-mail address. All information must be submitted on rewritable compact discs (RD-RW).
